Find your symptom first
Shopify Marketplace Connect not syncing is rarely one bug. The app (formerly Codisto) runs several separate syncs: inventory out to the marketplace, orders in to Shopify, and listing content such as price, title and images. Each has its own setting and each fails for a different reason. Work out which one is broken before you change anything.
| What you see | Most likely cause | Where to look |
|---|---|---|
| Sold out in Shopify, still buyable on the marketplace | Listing isn't linked, or its quantity is fixed instead of following Shopify stock | Listings > Link listings, then the listing's quantity rule |
| Marketplace shows a lower number than Shopify | A buffer or maximum quantity rule. This is working as designed | The listing's inventory adjustment in Listings > Bulk edit |
| A marketplace order never appears in Shopify | An order import filter excludes it | Settings > Accounts > [marketplace] > Order import |
| Orders appear, but late | Import orders when is set to Complete | Same screen |
| Price or title edits in Shopify don't reach eBay | The listing was linked with Use eBay settings | Listings > Bulk edit |
| Everything on one marketplace stalled at the same time | A platform-side incident or processing backlog | Shopify Status page, in-app support chat |
| Etsy won't connect | New Etsy connections are closed | Nothing to fix on your side |
How Marketplace Connect sync works: two flows, four checkpoints
Two flows run in opposite directions, and most troubleshooting gets easier once you separate them.
- Inventory out. Shopify's available quantity passes through the listing's quantity rule and lands on the marketplace listing. This only happens for linked listings: Shopify's Help Center states that the app begins syncing orders and inventory after you link a marketplace listing to a Shopify product.
- Orders in. A marketplace order passes through your order import settings and becomes a Shopify order, with the marketplace name shown in the Channel field.
The part most guides miss is that the two flows depend on each other. Marketplace Connect support has described creating the equivalent Shopify order as the app's way of getting a marketplace sale into Shopify inventory. If that holds for your setup, turning order import off or filtering it means marketplace sales never reduce Shopify stock, and every other channel keeps selling units that are already gone. It looks like an inventory bug. It is an order import setting. Confirm it with one test order before relying on either assumption.
That gives you four checkpoints, in the order worth testing them:
- Is the listing linked?
- Does the listing's quantity rule follow Shopify stock?
- Do the order import filters let this order through?
- Is the marketplace's processing queue healthy?
Marketplace Connect not syncing inventory
Link the listing first
A listing that already existed on eBay, Amazon or Walmart before you connected the app is not tied to a Shopify product automatically. Marketplace Connect suggests a match based on SKU, UPC or title, then waits for you to approve it. Until you do, that listing gets no inventory updates.
- In your Shopify admin, go to Apps > Marketplace Connect and click Listings.
- Pick the marketplace from the drop-down menu, then click Link listings.
- Work through the three badges: Ready to list (a match was found, approve it), Close match (approve it, or pick a different product from the Shopify SKU drop-down), and No match (choose the product yourself).
- Click Review matches, check the pairs, then click Link listings.
Two practical notes. First, matching leans on SKU, so identical SKUs on both sides make linking close to automatic, while missing or duplicated SKUs push listings into Close match and No match. Second, read title-based matches by hand before approving. A wrong link is worse than no link, because it syncs one product's stock onto another product's listing.
Check how the listing's quantity is set
A linked listing can still ignore Shopify stock. Marketplace Connect support has said on the Shopify Community that inventory syncs to eBay automatically as long as inventory sync is enabled and the listing's quantity operator is set to Web Quantity or Stock Level. A listing set to a fixed quantity keeps advertising that number whatever Shopify says. That is the first thing to rule out when eBay shows stock you don't have.
eBay listings also carry inventory adjustments, which change the number on purpose:
| Adjustment | What it does | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed inventory value | Shows a set quantity on the listing | Does not follow Shopify stock |
| Buffer | Holds units back from the marketplace | Buffer 2, Shopify stock 5: eBay shows 3 |
| Maximum quantity | Caps the number shown | Maximum 5: eBay shows 5 until Shopify stock drops below 5, then the real number |
The catch: the defaults under Settings > Accounts > eBay > New listings > Manage apply to future listings only. Existing listings are not affected, so changing a default will not repair a live listing. Fix live listings in Listings > Bulk edit, using the Columns button to add the fields you need.
When you compare numbers, compare against Shopify's Available quantity, not On hand. On hand still includes units committed to unfulfilled orders.
Remove the second connector app
Shopify's setup guidance is explicit: keep only one marketplace connector app connected, to avoid data conflicts, and disconnect and uninstall the old one before switching to Marketplace Connect. Two tools writing quantity to the same listing produce a recognisable pattern, where a correct update lands and then flips back minutes later. If you migrated from another connector and never uninstalled it, do that before any other fix.
Marketplace orders not syncing to Shopify
Missing orders are almost always a filter, not a failure. Marketplace Connect has four order import settings per marketplace account, and three of them can hide an order by design.
| Setting | Option | What stays out of Shopify |
|---|---|---|
| Import orders by product type | All orders | Nothing |
| Only orders with linked products | Any order for a listing you haven't linked | |
| No orders | Every order. Automatic import is off | |
| Import orders by fulfillment method | All orders | Nothing |
| Only fulfilled by {marketplace} | Orders you fulfill yourself | |
| Only fulfilled by merchant | Orders the marketplace fulfills, such as Amazon FBA | |
| Import orders when | Pending | Nothing. Orders arrive as soon as they're placed |
| Complete | Any order the customer hasn't paid in full yet |
To check them, go to Apps > Marketplace Connect > Settings, click the marketplace under Accounts, review the Order import section and click Save. Repeat for every connected marketplace, because the settings are per account.
The fourth setting, tax handling, doesn't hide orders but does confuse reports. The default is Withhold tax, which imports the order without the tax the marketplace collected, so Shopify totals won't match marketplace totals.
For a single missing order, open Marketplace Connect > Orders, select Import in the Import column for that order, and click Save. Manual imports are unlimited and free. Automatic sync is free for the first 50 marketplace orders a month, and additional synced orders are billed according to Shopify's pricing page.
Price, title or images not updating on eBay
When you link existing eBay listings, the app asks you to choose a rule for five things: shipping rules, return policy, eBay title, description, and price and taxes. For each one you pick Use eBay settings or Marketplace Connect settings.
- Use eBay settings keeps the value that is already on eBay. Later edits to that field in Shopify will not flow to eBay. That is the rule doing its job, not a sync failure. For title, description and price you can switch it at any time in the bulk editor.
- Marketplace Connect settings overrides what is on eBay, and the original eBay settings can't be restored. Export or copy your eBay titles and descriptions before you choose it.
Two more settings change eBay content on purpose. A price adjustment (a constant, a percentage or an amount up or down, with optional rounding) makes the eBay price differ from the Shopify price. And if Catalog image sync is set to Off for a listing, images are managed on eBay and Shopify image changes are ignored. You'll find that column in Listings > Bulk edit > Columns > Other.
Rule out a platform-side backlog
Sometimes your settings are right and the queue is not. A Shopify Community thread opened on tracked exactly this for eBay:
- : Marketplace Connect support said the eBay API issue was fixed, but a large backlog meant images, listing updates and new listings would take time to publish.
- : support said image errors could continue until the backlog cleared, and gave no timeframe.
- : a merchant reported that eBay orders and fulfillment updates still reached Shopify, while stock sold on the Shopify store was not being reduced on eBay.
The last detail matters most. Sync failed in one direction only, so the app looked healthy while sold-out items stayed buyable. Whether that backlog is fully cleared on the day you read this is something to check, not assume.
Signs that you're looking at a platform problem and not a setting:
- Many listings went wrong at once, and you changed nothing.
- Errors appear on listings you haven't edited.
- One direction works and the other doesn't.
In that case, stop re-saving listings. Repeated edits won't move you up a queue, and they bury the evidence. Check the Shopify Status page, then open the support chat inside the app with a reproducible case: the Shopify SKU and variant, the marketplace item ID, both quantities, and the time you checked each one. A specific mismatch gets investigated. A general complaint gets a template reply.
If your catalog is too large to spot-check by hand, comparing Shopify available stock against marketplace quantity by SKU is a small scripting job, and it is the kind of marketplace integration work for Amazon, eBay and Walmart that Netalith takes on.
Connection problems: Etsy and store requirements
As of , Shopify's Help Center says new connections to Etsy can't be made with Marketplace Connect. Merchants already selling on Etsy through the app can keep using it. So if Etsy is your problem and the connection still exists, do not disconnect it as a troubleshooting step. You may not be able to reconnect.
The marketplaces you can connect are Amazon, eBay, Walmart (United States only) and Target Plus (United States only). The store itself also has to meet four requirements:
- An online store that is not in private (password-protected) mode.
- A valid payment provider activated in your Shopify admin.
- Shipping rates set up for the countries you sell to.
- A verified seller account, approved to sell, on each marketplace.
A store that was put back behind a password page for a redesign fails the first one.
Stop overselling while you fix it
Cancelled orders hurt your seller rating faster than a paused listing does. Until sync is confirmed working, control stock by hand on the marketplace side:
- For every SKU that is sold out in Shopify, set the quantity to 0 or end the listing directly on the marketplace.
- Keep a short exception list: SKU, marketplace item ID, Shopify available quantity, marketplace quantity.
- Recheck that list each day. When sync resumes, expect the connector to overwrite your manual quantity with the Shopify number, which is what you want.
When a connector app is the wrong tool
Marketplace Connect fits a store that sells on its four supported marketplaces with standard listing rules. You have outgrown it when:
- You need a channel it doesn't cover, such as TikTok Shop, Temu, or Etsy as a new seller.
- You need your own alert when Shopify and marketplace stock diverge, not a discovery after the oversell.
- Your stock rules depend on warehouse, channel or product type in ways the built-in adjustments don't express.
At that point the answer is an integration built directly on the marketplace APIs, with sync logic and logs you control. That work is priced to scope. If you're not sure whether you need a fix, a different connector or a custom build, ask Netalith for a free quote and describe the symptom from the table at the top.
FAQ
Questions fréquentes
Why is Shopify Marketplace Connect not syncing inventory to eBay?
The three usual causes are a listing that was never linked to its Shopify product, a listing whose quantity is fixed instead of following Shopify stock, and a second connector app writing to the same listing. Link the listing under Listings > Link listings, then check its quantity rule in the bulk editor. If many listings stalled at once without any change on your side, check for a platform-side backlog.
Why are my Amazon or eBay orders not showing up in Shopify?
An order import setting is usually filtering them out. Under Settings > Accounts > [marketplace] > Order import, 'Only orders with linked products' skips orders for unlinked listings, 'Only fulfilled by merchant' skips marketplace-fulfilled orders such as Amazon FBA, 'No orders' turns automatic import off, and 'Complete' holds an order until the customer has paid in full.
How do I manually import a marketplace order into Shopify?
Go to Apps > Marketplace Connect > Orders, select Import in the Import column for the order, and click Save. The order then appears in the Orders section of your Shopify admin with the marketplace name in the Channel field. Manual imports are unlimited and free.
Can I connect Etsy to Shopify Marketplace Connect?
As of October 2026, Shopify's Help Center says new connections to Etsy can't be made with Marketplace Connect. Merchants already selling on Etsy through the app can continue to use it, so avoid disconnecting an existing Etsy account while troubleshooting.
Is Shopify Marketplace Connect free?
Connecting marketplaces, listing products and manual order imports are free. Automatic order sync is free for the first 50 marketplace orders each month. Additional synced orders are billed according to Shopify's pricing page.
Can I use Marketplace Connect together with another connector app?
Shopify advises keeping only one marketplace connector app connected, to avoid data conflicts. If you are switching to Marketplace Connect, disconnect and uninstall the previous connector first.
How do I contact Marketplace Connect support?
Use the chat feature inside the Marketplace Connect app in your Shopify admin. Send a specific case: the Shopify SKU and variant, the marketplace item ID, the quantity shown on each side, and when you checked. A reproducible mismatch is investigated faster than a general report.
